BioEngine: the brain and circuits of bioinformatics. BioEngine is a group of interconnected algorithms that automatically produces data, information and knowledge using existing databases.

BioEngine is a collaborative term for a system that integrates bioinformatics analysis/process pipelines. It is essentially a big daemon program that controls the processes and data analysis tools for bioinformatic tasks in large bioinformatics research centers and labs.

The concept is not new, but the precise architecture was built by the bioinformatics team at KOBIC of Korea.

It is now a 1.2 million USD project funded by the ministry of information and communication of Korea.

There can be many different types of bioengines as a general concepts. For example, SRS is a bioengine specialized to retrive biological sequences and other linked information.

BioWorkbench is a kind of bioengine that is for cooperative development of bioinformatics applications.
